Tinidor glanced at the other candidates. "Not everyone's cut out to be a rider. I know lots of people who have turned down Search for all kinds of reasons...because they have a sexual partner they want to marry or know would be jealous of flights, or they're scared of heights, or they want to do something else more...a *lot* of healers turn it down because, well, they feel they're needed more as healers." He grinned at Tirasha for a moment.
"Me...I don't want to do anything else. I'm...a little afraid I'll never be chosen." And he was not sure what he would do in that case. Leave the Weyr? It might be tempting. Keeping one eye on the firelizards, the boy frowned a little.
He wanted his earth. Badly.

" Yes, I do understand that people have reasons that they do not wish to be Searched. And that you Tirasha also have reasons, just wondering I guess." Sameric's eyes sparkled for a minute. Torimin grinned behind her brother's back.
Uli chirped in surprise when Tianthe jumped between her and her brother. Moon spun quickly around. He turned his head from side to side and chirped at her, then at Willow as the other fire-lizard joined in.

Tirasha only nodded distractedly. "I've never been Searched anyways. No need to turn one down if it doesn't happen..." Her aunt had just thought her work was needed here, so here she was. People with a little influence sure could get a lot done. She had heard no exact question on why she didn't think that she could Impress either, and found that a relief. No reason to answer a question unasked... or imply that it should be.
Tianthe trilled happily at her brother, twisting around again to tackle him. Her game of chase was quickly becoming her more usual game of ambush. Willow gave a surprised squawk and stumbled back a few steps, but remained standing against the smaller Grass's impact. Tianthe collapsed on the table, rumbling happily.

Tinidor grinned. "I just hope my dragon cracks shell soon." If he had to wait much longer...with even the seas and grasses turning up their noses at him.
It was frustrating, but he forced the thought away. "Not everyone can. Firelizards are a lot less picky than dragons, although I met one kid once who couldn't even Impress a lizard, not if the egg hatched in his lap. He went and apprenticed as a smith...poor guy was totally dragon deaf."

Sameric laughed as Tianthe tried to tackle Willow. " Some people are I guess...but I think that everyone should have a chance to try. Everyone that is Searched isn't able to Impress, but some that aren't could if they were given the chance." He frowned a little.
Uli gurgled as Willow didn't really budge when the Grass tried to tackle him. Moon watched, not really looking at Uli. Suddenly he was bowled over by his not so much smaller sister, Uli chirping happily.
Torimin grinned at the pile of fire-lizards. " Be careful of your wings now!" But she wasn't that concerned.

Tirasha nodded. "I wonder what it's like for those who are Searched but don't Impress... having your hopes build up for nothing." She looked down at her fingers thoughtfully. "I can't say it would be too bad for those that could have Impressed but were never Searched, unless it was their lifelong dream to be a dragonrider." Unless the dragon meant for them couldn't find another and betweened or something sad like that instead. A dragon death at a hatching always seemed worse than a human one.
Tianthe hunched her back and pushed at Willow like a runnerbeast straining against a heavy load. He leapt suddenly into the air, causing the Grass to fall forwards on her chest. With an indignant bark, she leapt into the air after him. Noticing Uli and Moon below her, Tianthe chirped to them, hoping they would join her and help her catch Willow. Nasty little Mineral, always playing tricks on her.
Tirasha only smiled as she watched the fire-lizards, Tianthe could be so utterly stupid and innatentive at times and it was great fun to watch. It was probably a good thing she had Impressed the flitt, else she would surely have been dead long ago.

Tinidor considered that. "They'd never know. And dragon hatchlings betweening is very rare...thankfully." A pause. "Not everyone can. We're the lucky ones, to even have that chance."
He sounded like he believed it, thoroughly. To be a dragon rider, was to be part of a special breed of men. Those who could look down on the world. Those who owned the sky. "But even then...we have to accept that we may never be chosen."

Sameric nodded. " Yeah, I guess we don't have the time or all the dragons to Search everyone...and give them all a chance to Impress." He smiled. " Still, I'm glad I was chosen."
Torimin nodded too, but she had gone quiet.
Uli and Moon shot into the air after the other two...trying to catch Willow as well. Moon tried to cut him off while Uli followed along with Tianthe.

"There probably aren't enough eggs either." Tirasha ran a finger along a line in the table, absently tracing its curves and lopsided whirls. She, for one, was glad she had never been chosen. Having a dragon might be exiciting, but she didn't want to go through being a Weyrling, mating flights, or flying at all. It would only be a companion to her, and her flitts did that already.
"Something wrong?" Tirasha raised her eyebrows and glanced at Torimin. She may have only known the candidate for however long she had been at breakfast now, but it seemed odd to her to have the girl go quiet.
Willow squawked and tried to duck under Moon, only to have Tianthe grab his tail with her forelegs and give a triumphant bugle. The Mineral snapped playfully at her and jerked away with a powerful downstroke. A Grass couldn't overtake him.

Tinidor nodded. "I hope all of ours are in this clutch. I would like to go through training with some people I know I get on well with," he admitted. "There's a lot of new candidates that I haven't had chance to hang out with yet."
A matter he should correct, then he glanced at the suddenly quiet girl. He did not, however, echo Tirasha's question. No sense ganging up on her.

Torimin looked up at them both for a minute. " Yes, I'm fine. Just thinking is all..." She smiled and put her head on Sameric's shoulder.
He smiled at the other two people. " She gets deep when she thinks. Just another side of her." He stroked her hair in a brotherly reassuring way.
The flitts were still after Willow, Moon and Uli almost colliding at one point. Uli managed to tap the Mineral's tail when she righted herself from the near collision.

Tirasha nodded at them. "Dragonets will probably keep you busy." Maybe, she thought absently, I could ask the Weyrlingmaster to let me slip in a lesson on healing... we could definately use help from the riders themselves. "It would be a lot more fun to go through Weyrlinghood with friends, I suppose."
Smiling weakly at Torimin, Tirasha shrugged. "It's my job to ask about things, I guess." Or at least notice them... and the next step was always a question. Now she wanted to ask what it was exactly Torimin was thinking about, but held back.
Willow was quickly discovering that he wasn't quite as agile as the smaller flitts- even though Moon and Uli weren't that much smaller than him- and he probably didn't have much chance in escaping all of them. So instead he tried turning the game to be after Moon, twisting around in the air to chase the Earth. Tianthe caught on quickly, but had to beat Willow first. Practically landing on top of her brother in the air, she ran the back of her paws over his back and closed her claws briefly around his neck in a brief show of agility to prove to him that her team had won. Then, with an exicted chirp, took off after Moon.

Tinidor nodded. "Yeah, and I'm looking forward to it. I won't mind looking after *my* dragon. He just has to find me first."
What would he...well. "The firelizards...had better not hurt each other with all of this roughhousing." At least they were being careful of each others' delicate wings. He relaxed. Worrying about that was silly...especially with a healer right here.

" Sorry everyone, but i was just thinking we are really lucky to be here. We as a whole and we as in Sameric and I." She smiled at her brother.
Sameric wasn't sure how she would have done without him. " Yeah, we all are pretty lucky. Even Tirasha, you are because you get to work with the creatures that own the skies." He grinned and his eyes twinkled.
Moon squawked as every other fire-lizard began to come after him. He swerved and shot off, looking back and chirping happily at them.

"Yup." Tirasha flickered a smile. She was feeling about ready to go... the Healer had finished her breakfast practically before the Candidates had come in anyways.
"Tianthe is the only one of mine anyone'd need to worry about," she told Tinidor softly, smiling as she watched the fire-lizards whirring about above her head. "And I'm sure she'll be careful." She had, at least, been so thus far.
"Only when they're hurt though," Tirasha pointed out. "Which isn't always great." Of course, she enjoyed the feeling, but there were some Threadscores that were so bad and some of those clumsy dragons that she practically befriended during the many times that they were brought in for assistance.
Willow rumbled, his eyes whirling playfully, as he swerved in front of Moon trying to cut him off in the same manner the Earth had done to him. Tianthe snorted at her brother's lack of creativity and twisted under both of them, shooting up suddenly and flicking Willow's chin with her tail as she shot past him. The Mineral shook his head and chirrupped uncertainly- who exactly was he to chase after now?

Tiniddor nodded. "I don't like seeing them hurt. I don't like seeing anyone hurt. It bothers me so much I actually couldn't be a healer."
He could handle flying Thread though. He, well, had to. "Tianthe seems to be a lively one." He glanced at the little green. "Pretty, though."

" True, a hurt dragon is never good...yet we have to put them in danger to keep all of us safe. I just hope that when I bond, mine never gets seriously injured." Sameric nodded solemnly.
Torimin agreed with her brother. " I don't want mine to get hurt at all, but I'm sure that you can't stay away from minor Threadscores...unless you are in the Queen's Wing. They aren't in as much danger."
Uli gurgled as she thought that they switched to chasing Tianthe...and she flew after the other female fire-lizard. Moon was glad to have them all off of him, and followed his sister.

"The riders are in danger too," Tirasha pointed out. Dragons and their riders shared the same risk really. People seemed to think more about the dragons though, maybe because they were larger and more likely to be hit. "And I doubt there's really a way to avoid ever getting hit by Thread."
Tianthe squawked as the flitts came after her and quickly twisted around to dive back towards the table. She was quite sure that not all of them could follow her in a weaving course beneath it.... Willow hesitated at the edge of the table, his eyes whirling uncertainly. The little Mineral did not particularly want to go under there and follow his sister through the obstical course of people and chair legs. Instead he landed on the table, ambled to the other side, and poked his head underneath to watch upside-down.

Tinidor grinned. "There isn't a rider alive who wouldn't rather they were hurt, not their bond. Seems to be a natural side effect of Impression." A pause. "There isn't a rider of any time alive who isn't scarred, though, during a Pass."
That was his future, but it didn't bother him.

Sameric smiled and nodded. " That's how I'll be, though I'd rather not be hurt too...that causes anguish to the dragon as well."
Torimin only smiled, not saying anything as she looked on at the fire-lizard antics. Uli and Moon dove after the others as they went for the table, while Willow didn't go under...the other two did. They were chirping the whole time happily.
Sameric smiled at his sister. " Torimin feels the same way, she's just preoccupied!"
