~~Queen Clutch Hatching April 25th, 2008, green Clutch Hatching the next weekend
Founding and Distant Past
When AIVAS was discovered and the Red Star "destroyed," the dragonriders seemed to be a useless part of society. A group of disgruntled riders, gathered from Weyrs across Pern, moved to an extinct double-caldera volcano, building a Weyrhold. It prospered, though the dragonrider population dwindled, and soon the Dragonhold was far larger than the Weyr itself. Rarely was more than one queen dragon alive at a time, so the population sustained itself.
However, over time, inbreeding began to draw out recessives, and more and more dragon eggs lay, unHatched, on the sands. Colors only heard of in stories, like the famed white, appeared more often, as well as a rare, dark dragon, almost a green but smaller and nearly black.
Then Thread came, and the Weyr grew in size, protecting the Hold and surrounding area from disaster, though the grubs prevented groundcrews from becoming a necessity. The Weyr remained healthy through the Interval, and now the Red Star winks balefully ever-closer, as the Interval draws to a close.
Recent Past
the Interval drew to a close, the two queens, Tarazeth and Charath, Rose at the same time. Through a tremendous force of will, the two weyrwomen kept the dragons from killing each other, and both Flew successfully. But the effort nearly killed the Sr. Weyrwoman, already ill from a difficult pregnancy, and she died soon after the Flight.
Egg-heavy, Tarazeth could not between, and she soon grew thin and pale, refusing all food. She Clutched only four eggs, one a queen, then vanished forever, seeking the solace of death. It was left to Charath to guard the double-Clutch, and she settled down to brood.
As if the death of the Sr. queen was not enough, a rider on a strange, pale dragon with green eyes--an albinorider--came to the Weyr, begging that some come forward in time to save the future. Many left, leaving Stormheart with only a few dragons and the Hold rather empty. Both Weyrleaders left with the albinorider, leaving the Weyr ruled only by the new Sr. queen and her rider.
The albino dragon left the Weyr with only a few, cryptic words. Save us. Watch the skies. Then the pair and most of the Weyr left, destination unknown, riding with the albinorider.
.................................
Since then, things have only gotten crazier.
The Weyr was attacked by bizarre, vicious creatures called "Slashers," which slaughtered numerous Weyrlings and weyrdwellers and wreaked havoc upon the Weyr. Just when the repairs were nearing completion, disaster struck again when Fort Weyr was vaporized in a huge explosion of their long-dormant volcano, and the tremors sent a tidal wave racing towards Stormheart. All the while, the dragons were away, trying to find Fort survivors....
A Candidate was kidnapped during the confusion during the Slashers incident, and is now imprisoned by a bizarre group who call themselves "The Project."
In the midst of this turmoil, two Clutches lie hardening on the Sands- one of the Green Faranyth, and one of the Gold Estarriath. Candidates are needed.
