About the Person

Physical appearance: Shanya is of average height for her age, about 5’4”. She decided when she was 13 that she was done growing, but apparently wasn’t then and still might not be now. Her hair is dark, thick and curly, but she'll have to cut if off once she starts actually riding Regalisth to fit the helmet.... Sadness for Shanya, she loves her hair.
The exact opposite of her black hair, Shanya’s eyes are a pale silvery-blue color. Against her tan skin and the dark hair, eyebrows, and lashes backing them, her eyes tend to stand out. The rest of her face seems overall average.
Shanya has a slender build, inherited, as her father often says, from her mother. She doesn’t think her father is anything to look at, so apparently he is telling the truth. Shanya knows just how to make herself looks good and usually wears a green-blue shirt, hide pants and tight-fitting boots that reach about to mid-thigh.
Personality: Shanya is a quick judge of anyone and once deciding on how she feels about someone, it can be hard to change her mind. Although her thoughts on someone usually aren’t too far off, if they are to change at all, mentally she basically doesn’t allow it. First impressions are the only impressions anyone can get with Shanya.
Often sharp-tongued, a little spoiled, and occasionally friendly, Shanya might appeal to people in appearance but when actually talking its hard to get to know her. It’s not that she has no social skills, but that she has too many and has learned to twist and contort anything anyone says, including herself, into being exactly what she wants it to mean.
A master of deception too, Shanya is good at making people think they are close to her so that she can get what she wants from them, then walk away. No, her friends don’t often last long. But it's enough for her.

History: Shanya was born rather uneventfully one early morning in her parents bedroom at their house in Halpan hold. At the same time, one of her father’s runnerbeasts was giving birth too, probably a good thing since he would much rather attend an animal birthing than a human, even if it is his wife. Since they were born at the same time, Beran decided that Shanya could have the filly.
For a few years, the filly went nameless until the toddler was able to speak, at least somewhat, where she named the beast Suiku. As coincidental as the same-time birth of the girl and equine, it was only shortly after Shanya named Suiku that Enni was died in an accident with the filly’s mother. Because of her young age, Shanya hardly remembers her mother at all and Suiku seems more a parent to her than her real mother was.
Beran was hurt by the death of his beloved wife and in a random fit of grief tried to kill Suiku as though that were revenge for Suiku’s mother being a part of Enni’s death. He failed and only left Suiku with a bad limp in her right foreleg. From then on, Shanya hardly ever left the runnerbeast alone. Suiku was her sister and as a little girl with no mother and an unhappy father, she figured the equine was the best one to stay with.

Most of the experiences of her early childhood were forgotten, a good thing for her father since she forgot it was him who had hurt Suiku. He told her the runnerbeast had simply been born with the bad leg and Shanya, although she felt vaguely that that wasn’t the case, believed him. But the nagging thought that her father was lying to her put a wall between them that Shanya carefully disguised but knew was there. Her father never seemed to quite figure it out though.
As Shanya grew up she didn’t have many friends, and most of them were just the hardworking boys who helped out at with her father’s runnerbeasts. Since they were usually busy, Shanya spent most of her time just wandering with Suiku. One day she had just come back from a long ride when she noticed a Sand Searchdragon at the farm, with boys and a few girls lined up before it in hopes of being Searched.
The dragon was probably the most beautiful thing she had ever seen and Shanya threw herself into the line after putting Suiku away. And, surprise surprise, she was chosen as one of the Candidates for Sunshine’s Lilith new clutch. Apparently it had just been laid and they needed more Candidates.
Promising Suiku that she would come back for her someday when she had a dragon, Shanya packed up some things and then was carried off to the Weyr.

Meaning: The word Regalis is Latin for royal.
Age: Hatchling
Appearance: Regalisth is a very light tan color, almost white. She has no other colorings, or markings for that matter. She has darker wing membranes and a slightly darker underbelly. Regalisth is small for a Sand, only standing at 29 meters.
Personality: Regalisth is an extremely ornery girl. The poor thing. Sometimes she’s even mad at her dear rider. But she is also intelligent. From one glance, she can think of an age range one is in, and the personality of one. She is a great Search dragon.
