About the Person
Physical appearance: Tall and almost wraithlike in build, Kay isn’t exactly appealing to look at. Her skin is naturally pale and no amount of sun seems to change that, except to sunburn her occasionally. But oddly, she seems to have some resilience to those too. There is a thinness about Kay that no amount of food seems able to alter. She has never minded this much, for although it might give her a weak appearance she is at least somewhat stronger than she looks.
Kay’s face is long and thin-featured. Pimples speckle her forehead, reminiscent of her imperfect hygiene habits. Her eyes are a steely gray, bright but hard. And although they are a little close set, they seem to have a sort of vacancy to them. Her nose is narrow and has a sort of hook shape, starting out like normal but then suddenly taking a steep incline down. Her lips, in a manner that doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of Kay, are full.
Thin, shoulder-length black hair drapes Kay’s head. She has always had some sort of aversion to putting her hair up, and so although she usually tries to tuck her hair behind her ears some always escapes to frame her face. Kay is sure to brush her hair everyday and wash it when it needs it, but overall she is not too concerned with how it looks and doesn’t spend mounds of time with it. Brushing takes about three minutes, and that is all she spends on it.
Personality: Almost a complete contrast to Kay’s appearance, she is outgoing and friendly. She can act a little weird at time, as Kay has a habit of putting life to everything around her, from rocks to tree leaves. Quick to make friends with people and always slow to lose them, Kay always develops her ‘group’ wherever she is and sticks with it. In her opinion, she is always a lot closer to her friends than her family and it shows.
Overall, Kay is loyal to those she knows and tries to be helpful. She is a little clumsy and seems to have an odd habit of opening doors the wrong way so that she ends up just smacking into them. As she gets more used to the layout of the Weyr though, this will happen less. Usually after hitting a door, she will apologize and then request that it let her through before opening it and continuing on her way.
Around those older than her, Kay can be a little more shy. Her parents were constantly pounding into her head that she should not be outspoken to her elders, those who were older were naturally wiser and should be treated so, things like that. Although Kay never quite believed all of it, she had always been intimidated by her parents and remembers what they have told her. They had been an aggressive pair though, teaching Kay resilience and she has grown to be very slow to get angry since she never liked how quickly her parents got angry and doesn’t want to be like them.
Her worst quirk seems to come from her acne problem, which, though not altogether bad, has a tendency to distract her. When deep in thought or stressed, Kay picks at her pimples and so they are slow to heal and seem worse than they are.
Historical Facts:
Family: Kerri-Mum-46; Rateir-Da-46; V’ri-older brother-26-Mineral Rider(NPC unless someone wants me to post his bio and put him up for adoption. :3)
Pets: Male Forest Arrow
Age: 5
Appearance: Arrow is of lighter-than-average coloring for a Forest, but is still dark enough to be one, and definately large enough at 40 centimeters in length. He is named for the stripe of darker green that runs from the tip of his tail, along his back, and to his forehead, where it ends in a sort of arrow shape.
Personality: Because of how Kay had to keep him a secret for most of his life, Arrow has grown to be a shy, quiet, and very obedient fire-lizard. He is starting to get a little more outgoing at the Weyr, but completely overcoming the personality he was trained to have for most of his life will take time.
Grass fire-lizard Blade
Age: Hatchling
Appearance: Blade is one of the smallest Grass flitts, only barely reaching nineteen centimeters in length and most would guess that she was smaller. She is thin to go along with that, despite how much food Kay gives her and all the girl's loving care. She is definately a Grass from her light, springy color. Her belly and about halfway up her sides are touched with slightly darker shades of green, like little shadows dancing along her sides that give an extra movement to the fire-lizard even when she is hardly moving(although that is rare to see.)
Personality: Blade may only be nineteen centimeters long, but she is a proud, boisterous fire-lizard; definately making up for her size in attitude. Kay may have gone to the Hatching to get a companion for Arrow, but she quickly turned into the poor Forest's ruler. Unlike Kay or Arrow, she is very demanding and very focused on whatever it is she wants to get.
History: For most of her life, Kay was overshadowed by her seemingly more successful older brother. Born and raised in Naroon hold, she ended up spending little time at home, preferring to avoid her brother and her parents always telling her that she should be more like him. V’ri was a tall, strong boy, taking after his father in appearance and personality. In Kay’s opinion, he was vain and seemed to absorb the praise her parents seemed to lavish on him. She, on the other hand, seemed to end up with both of her parents worst traits, appearance-wise at least. And that seemed to be their main focus.
So although Kay spent little time with her family, she could not take naturally to not having people she liked around her. It didn’t take long for Kay to develop a sizeable group of friends. Her thin, pale appearance seemed to deter people at first, but her personality was likeable enough. Eventually she somehow ended up as the unnamed leader, expected to choose what the girls should do and when. This lasted only while the girls were young, for although they retained their friendship, by ten their parents started coming up with more things for them to do and so getting together was harder. But Kay had gotten a taste of leadership, even though it had been a sort of secret thing from her parents.
Kay’s mother was an experienced Weaver and so taught her daughter her trade. If anything, the girl could at least walk in her mother’s footsteps since the parents weren’t expecting much more of her. Kay did as she was told, but her heart was never really in the trade. Her goal every day was to quickly finish her chores and then get out of the house. There was plenty to be explored around the hold, and there were always times when others she knew escaped too. But Kay seemed to end up with a lot more free time than most of those she knew and ended up befriending more younger people and an old lady who sold fire lizard eggs.
Shortly before Kay turned twelve her older brother was Searched and carried off to New Southern Weyr. They later got news that he had Impressed a Bronze, news that made her parents very proud. ‘See how your brother did?’ They took to saying to Kay, ‘He impressed a Bronze, the greatest dragon for any boy.’ That changed not much later with the hatching of a Waterfall, but since Minerals(renamed, much to her parents’ confusion) were a ‘natural’ color, Kerri and Reteir still insisted that they were better.
The friendship with the woman who raised fire lizards was what later led to Kay receiving a flitt egg for her fifteenth birthday. It hatched into a little Forest flitt, which she named Arrow because of the arrow shaped marking of dark green on the flitt’s forehead. He was another secret to be kept from her parents, who had never allowed anyone to get a fire lizard in the family before and Kay doubted that would change. (And although her parents kept their reason for this a secret, Kay has always felt that it was because they never Impressed a flitt as a child and so don’t think that their children should either.) The Forest learned at a young age that obedience was a key if he wanted to live.
The next five years seemed to pass quickly for Kay, her mother taught her more about weaving although she still was not good enough to really be considered anything more than an apprentice. They got occasional news from V’ri, along with rare visits. Kay hated these and took to ‘disappearing’ to be with V’ri’s Mineral, Decoth while her brother and her parents talked. He was as thingyy as ever and still not one that she really wanted to be around.
Then the day finally came that Kay was in the market to buy thread for her mother back home. Arrow was perched on her shoulder, he loved visiting the market for there were many people who liked to feed the flitt. Kay never returned from that trip. A Grass landed nearby, for Search Kay realized when she saw all the boys who lined up before it. Curious, she had come forward, not expecting to be picked but just to see what happened. To her surprise, the Green’s rider had approached her.
“Wivirith thinks you would make a good candidate,” she said, “our Weyr’s Sunshine is flying soon. Would it be alright for you to come?”
Well, what else could Kay do but agree?
Fresh to the Weyr, Kay hasn’t met anyone yet and has a lot of trouble just finding her way to the kitchens. But hopefully soon she will be able to find her way around.
For Dragonriders:
Name of Dragon: Female Snow Nobleth
Meaning: To be noble is to be good.
Rider: Kay
Appearance: Nobleth has the color of pale smoke, leaving her hide dark enough to mask the veins spider-webbed within but still white. The only time one would really ever compare her coloring with smoke is when she is around a fire and someone actually notices it. The tips of her wing-sails and fingers are a very light blue, but the color is rarely noticed. Although larger than her brother Sargonth, Nobleth is also a small Snow, just under 17 meters in length.
Personality: One can already tell Nobleth will be odd simply because she is a female Snow. At times Nobleth can be a little gender-confused and think she is male simply because she is so used to others speaking of Snows as male and she only sees male Snows. But she still lives the life of a female, rising every once in a while and perhaps someday laying an egg. Caught by her confusion in gender, Nobleth is often confused by other things too. It takes her a long time to think anything through and although still imbued with the daredevilish streak of most Snows, she is much more careful about what she does.
Color code: Whitesmoke or F5F5F5 and Bolded
